D & J Franks Renewables install biomass boilers for commercial and domestic clients across the North East region and UK. This type of heating is becoming more and more popular throughout the UK as it offers low carbon emissions, huge savings and the opportunity to receive incentive payments for the heat produced through the government’s Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI).
What is Biomass?
Biomass is a renewable energy source that is obtained from living or previously living materials such as wood, grass, wheat or other suitable waste materials. Wood chips, pellets and logs are often used for commercial and domestic applications.
Biomass is most often used for the production of heat and the generation of electricity. Once biomass is burned, it releases CO2 equivalent to the amount that a plant would release when it dies and decomposes. Unlike fossil fuels that continually increase the carbon levels in the environment when burned, the carbon released from biofuels has a limited effect on the environment, as it is a part of the natural carbon cycle. Biomass boilers with low CO2 emissions and residues help you to look after the planet whilst saving significant amounts of money.
Biomass boiler systems range in size and complexity to suit different levels of commercial and domestic use. Technological advancements have seen major improvements in biomass devices over the years. As a result, they are now capable of operating at efficiency levels of over 95% which is comparable to the latest oil fired and gas fired boilers.
Benefits of Using Biomass
- Lower energy costs - biomass fuel is usually cheaper than other heating options such as oil and gas.
- Financial rewards - biomass wood fuel boiler systems can benefit from the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme which means you could receive payments for the heat you produce.
- Reduced carbon emissions – biomass is considered carbon neutral as the carbon dioxide that is emitted when the wood is burnt is the same amount that would be absorbed over the months and years that the plant was growing. It generates around 86% less carbon emissions than coal.
- High efficiency - most biomass boilers can convert up to 85 to 90% of fuel into heat.
Design, Installation & Maintenance
We provide a complete design, installation and maintenance service Biomass boilers require very little maintenance. However, to ensure the boiler continues to run efficiently, regular maintenance and servicing is recommended and forms an important part of our installation process. We provide a full maintenance and servicing plan for your boiler.
